CANTON, Ohio – Beloved Cleveland meteorologist Hollie Strano has officially launched her broadcasting comeback, securing a prominent new role with Stark County’s Mix 94.1 radio station. This move marks a significant new chapter for the Emmy-winning forecaster nearly a year after her highly publicized departure from WKYC Channel 3.

Strano announced the exciting news herself on social media, expressing immense gratitude and enthusiasm for her new home. “Let’s do this Stark County! So much love for you, Canton! Thank you for having me!” she posted on Facebook.

According to a announcement on the station’s website, Strano will be the voice delivering weather updates to Mix 94.1 listeners every morning and on the hour throughout the day, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. The station’s post introduced her as “an Emmy-winning mental health advocate, seasoned television professional, and nationally recognized public figure with over two decades of on-air experience.”

The announcement also highlighted her work beyond forecasting, noting she is “the creator of Abruptly Authentic — streaming on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts — she blends science, storytelling, and soul to deliver impactful forecasts and fearless conversations across the country.”

The Backstory: Strano’s Departure from WKYC

Strano’s hiring at Mix 94.1 follows a challenging period in her professional life. Her 22-year tenure at WKYC ended abruptly in September 2024. The termination came approximately nine months after she was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence in November 2023, an incident to which she later pleaded guilty.

However, Strano contended that her firing was not directly related to the OVI but was a result of stigma surrounding addiction. Following her termination, she stated, “I am sad to share that after 22 plus years of dedicated work, WKYC and Tegna decided to terminate my employment after I shared my recovery journey publicly. I believe the actions of WKYC and Tegna demonstrate the stigma surrounding addiction that so many in our community experience every day.”

She subsequently filed a lawsuit against Tegna, WKYC’s parent company, alleging she was fired for publicly discussing her alcoholism recovery and for promoting a product. WKYC has publicly denied these allegations.

A Multi-State Broadcasting Resurgence

The Stark County gig is not Strano’s only new venture. In a testament to her resilience and demand as a personality, she has also expanded her reach to the South.

Last month, she announced she would also be providing forecasts for radio stations in the Georgia and Alabama areas. “What an honor it is to be bringing you the forecast each day, from my hometown in Cleveland to your radios down South!” she shared on Facebook. “Grateful for the opportunity, and excited for what’s ahead.”

This multi-state role allows her to leverage her extensive experience for a national audience while maintaining her roots in Ohio broadcasting.

Beyond the Forecast: Advocacy and Authenticity

A key part of Strano’s personal and professional rebirth is her advocacy work. Through her platform, “Abruptly Authentic with Hollie Strano”, available as a podcast and YouTube show, she has fearlessly shared her recovery journey. In a powerful previous article with the Canton Repository, titled ‘I love me, finally’: Hollie Strano shares her recovery story, offers hope to others, she opened up about her struggles to connect with and inspire others facing similar battles.

This commitment to blending her professional expertise with personal vulnerability has forged a deep connection with her audience, making her new role on radio a highly anticipated development for her many supporters.

A message was left with Mix 94.1 requesting further comment on Strano’s hiring, but the station’s public welcome and Strano’s own announcement confirm this powerful and positive next step in her storied career.
