The world of evangelical Christianity mourns the loss of a monumental figure. Widely regarded as one of the most influential Christian leaders of the past 50 years, Dobson’s impact extended far beyond the pulpit. A psychologist by training, he dedicated his life to strengthening marriages, guiding parents, and championing conservative biblical values in the public square.

“Dr. Dobson was a pioneer — a man of deep conviction whose voice shaped the way generations view faith, family, and culture,” said Gary Bauer, senior vice president of public policy at the JDFI. “His bold leadership, integrity, and compassion helped equip countless families to thrive.”

Dobson’s legacy is immense. In 1977, he founded Focus on the Family in California, growing it from a humble beginning into a global evangelical powerhouse. At its peak, his daily radio program was a staggering force, broadcast on over 4,000 stations across North America and translated into 27 languages for audiences in 160 countries.

His influence also reached the highest levels of U.S. government. Dobson provided counsel to Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump. He served on President Trump’s Evangelical Executive Advisory Board, shaping policy on issues important to his constituency.

A prolific author, Dobson wrote more than 70 books, including bestsellers like “The New Dare to Discipline” and “When God Doesn’t Make Sense.” He was a leading voice in national debates, campaigning against abortion and pornography while advocating for the traditional family unit.
