Mingus Reedus, Son of Walking Dead Star, Faces New Assault Charges in NYC
In a distressing turn of events, Mingus Reedus, the 25-year-old son of “The Walking Dead” superstar Norman Reedus and model Helena Christensen, has been arrested and charged with assault for the second time in four years.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed to media outlets, including People, that the incident occurred on August 23rd. Authorities responded to a scene near 16th Street and 8th Avenue in Manhattan after reports of an altercation.
Upon arrival, police observed a 33-year-old woman with visible injuries to her neck and leg. Mingus Reedus was taken into custody at the scene. He has been formally charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and assault, serious offenses under New York law.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived and transported the alleged victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. Officials reported that she was in stable condition upon arrival.
This recent arrest casts a dark shadow, as it mirrors a previous incident from September 2021. During that altercation at the San Gennaro festival in Little Italy, Mingus was arrested for allegedly punching a 24-year-old woman in the face. In that case, he ultimately accepted a plea deal in March 2022, pleading guilty to the lesser charge of disorderly conduct.
At the time, Mingus spoke to The New York Daily News, offering a different account of the 2021 event. He alleged that he and his group were swarmed, followed, and harassed by the woman and her friends, who were throwing food and making threats.
“It was instinct,” he explained. “I was reacting to them swarming me and was afraid for the safety of my group… I threw my arm out to protect myself from the woman and accidentally hit her.”
He claimed that police “refused to listen to the context” after seeing the injured woman.
The details and context of this new, August 2023 allegation are still emerging. The NYPD has stated that their investigation is ongoing. E! News reported that they reached out to representatives for Mingus Reedus for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
