The once-promising relationship between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys appears to be under strain as contract negotiations between the All-Pro linebacker and the franchise have reportedly stalled. Despite optimism from fans and team insiders, sources suggest the two sides remain “way too far apart” on terms, leading to growing tension behind the scenes.

While the Cowboys have recently extended other players like Jake Ferguson, Parsons’ long-anticipated deal remains unresolved—raising questions about how much urgency the front office is placing on securing its defensive cornerstone.

Other Extensions Move Forward as Parsons Waits

Cowboys fans have voiced frustrations over the team extending what they consider “non-urgent” contracts while the Parsons situation lingers. According to team insiders, the answer is simple: those players were ready to sign, and Parsons is not.

“Ferguson was ready to be paid,” said DallasCowboys.com’s Kurt Daniels. “Micah Parsons isn’t rushing, and neither are the Cowboys.”

Both sides, it seems, are waiting for the other to blink first.

Not the First Time the Cowboys Played the Waiting Game

The Cowboys have a history of delaying major extensions while completing smaller ones. In 2023, safety Malik Hooker got a deal just 10 days before Zack Martin ended his hold-in. Back in 2019, Jaylon Smith and La’el Collins were extended while star running back Ezekiel Elliott remained in a contract standoff.

According to team writers, this pattern isn’t by accident—it’s a strategic move. The Cowboys are essentially signaling they are “open for business”, but they want flexibility and leverage in their negotiations, even with a superstar like Parsons.

Where Things Stand: Micah Parsons Still Without a Deal

Parsons, who has been the face of the Dallas defense since being drafted in 2021, is currently under contract but eligible for a massive extension. Given his Pro Bowl credentials and rising market value, many expected the deal to be prioritized this offseason. Instead, the Cowboys have opted to lock down role players while letting the Parsons negotiation play out.

“Eventually they will both come together,” said Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com. “But right now, that’s not where the Cowboys and Micah are.”

What It Means for the Season Ahead

While both sides are publicly playing it cool, the delay raises the risk of a contract distraction lingering into the 2025 season. Cowboys fans, already anxious after multiple playoff letdowns, are worried this could impact locker room chemistry.

Still, most insiders believe that the deal will eventually get done—just not as quickly as fans hoped.

Micah Parsons Contract Outlook: Deal Coming, But Not Yet

Though tensions may be rising, the prevailing belief remains that Micah Parsons will eventually sign a lucrative extension with the Cowboys. The only question is: how long will it take, and how much friction will build before it happens?
