LAKEWOOD, Calif. — A Lakewood shooting left three family members dead after a father killed his wife and youngest daughter, fired at his eldest daughter and then took his own life inside a home on Lorelei Avenue, authorities said.

Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded about 7:55 a.m. to the 5800 block of Lorelei Avenue, near South Street, after receiving a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the department. The call came from a teenage girl who told authorities her father had fired shots at her and was lying unconscious nearby.

When deputies arrived, they encountered an “extremely distraught” 19-year-old woman outside the residence. She was detained briefly for questioning while deputies secured the scene and entered the home.

Inside, investigators found three deceased individuals: a man, a woman and a teenage girl. The man was later identified as Hector Lionel Alfaro, 52, authorities said.

According to investigators, Alfaro was found on the floor in the den, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper torso. As deputies continued their search of the house, they discovered Alfaro’s wife, 48, in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to her torso.

In a second bedroom, deputies located a 17-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to her upper torso. She was later identified as Alfaro’s youngest daughter.

The 19-year-old woman, identified as Alfaro’s eldest daughter, told investigators she was asleep inside the home when she heard gunshots. Authorities said Alfaro then appeared near her, armed with a handgun, and fired several rounds in her direction. She was not struck by gunfire.

Investigators said Alfaro then shot himself while standing near his eldest daughter.

The 19-year-old was not injured and was taken to the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station for an interview. LASD Lt. Daniel Vizcarra said she is not considered a suspect or a person of interest in the case.

A firearm was recovered inside the home, Vizcarra confirmed.

Firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to assist deputies and cleared the scene by 8:51 a.m. No one was transported to a hospital, a department spokesperson said.

Authorities emphasized there is no danger to the broader community.

“There is no threat to the public at-large and there is no outstanding suspect,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement shared on social media.

At the scene, Sheriff’s Capt. Daniel Holguin described the incident as devastating for the community.

“Obviously this incident is a tragedy,” Holguin told reporters. “Lakewood is one of the safest cities in L.A. County. This is definitely going to affect our community, but at this time it appears to be an isolated incident, and there are no safety issues to the public right now.”

The quiet residential block was cordoned off for several hours as homicide investigators documented the scene and spoke with neighbors. Several residents said they were shocked by the violence and described the neighborhood as typically calm and family-oriented.
